Vladimir

For more than 250 years Vladimir played a very important part in the history of Russia,when it was the capital of the ancient Russian state.Up to 1432,Grand Princes of Russia were crowned in the Vladimir Cathedral of the Assumption of Holly Mother of God.The Golden Gate is the only existing monument of military engineering architecture of ancient Russia.The gate was built in 1158-64,under Prince Andrey Bogolubsky.It was the main,most spectacular, and imposing gate of north-eastern Russia’s capital.Such gates had been erected in big cities of the Christian world starting with the gate in Constantinople that commemorated the entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem through the Golden Gate of the city.

Ivanovo

Modern city of Ivanovo is a part of the Golden Ring of Russia itinerary.Although the city was founded relatively recently,it has already become popular for plenty of statues and monuments constructed there such as Shudrovskaya tent of XVII century,Wooden Assumption Church established at the end of XII century,Duringer’s estate (1910).Ivanovo is located on the banks of the Volga river,300 km north-east of Moscow.Founded in 1871 and before 1932 Ivanovo city called as Ivanovo-Voznesensk.

Kostroma

Founded in 1152 by the Prince Yuri Dolgoruki, Kostroma city is situated on the left bank of the River Volga.The town’s pride is the St.Ipaty Monastery,famous for being patronised by the Romanov Dynasty.Here in 1613 young Mikhail Romanov was blessed to become the Tsar of Russia.We also invite you to visit the Trinity Cathedral to admire the 17th century frescoes,and the Cathedral of the Epiphany Monastery with the icon of St.Theodora Virgin that is believed to perform miracles.Kostroma is famous with its wonderful architectural monuments,Ipatyevsky Convent and the Church of Resurrection on Debra River.

Sergiev Posad

Sergiev Posad was named after Saint Sergey,known as Sergey Radonezhsky, who was born in Radonezh (a city situated next to Zagorsk).In the 14th century he founded a convent there and it became one of the biggest and most magnificent convents in Russia.Nowadays the convent is called as Lavra and is considered to be the “Russian Vatican”.Located 70 km from Moscow,Sergiev Posad is the town around the Trinity Convent of St.Sergius.Sergiev Posad is called as a pearl of the Golden Ring,a cityrich in history,the center of Russian Orthodoxy located 50 kilometers from Moscow to Yaroslavl highway.

Yaroslavl

During the XVII century Yaroslavl became a port of entry into Russia,and the city advanced to the third place after Moscow and Kazan as a center of trade.Founded in 1010 by Yaroslav the Wise,is a large,pleasantly quiet old town,and yet much more metropolitan than the other cities on the Golden Ring.Yaroslavl developed rapidly because of its favorable location along the Volga trade route.In 1218 it became the capital of the independent feudal Yaroslavl principality.In 1463 the Principality merged with the Moscow state.It is a town of trades and crafts,of majority of churches impressing you with its original beauty.Of special interest are the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviour,founded in 12th centuty,and the majestic Church of Elijah the Prophet.

Rostov Veliky

The focal point is its Kremlin,built on the shore of a lake.Rostov did not aspire to political authority, always conducted a trade policy,and collected cultural wealth on huge spaces of Northeast Russia.In Rostov the first Episcopal faculty,the first Uspenski cathedral (991) was based.Rostov was the constant participant of all political events connected to activity of Grand dukes,Tsar Ivan Grozny, Romanov House.Rostov repeatedly was exposed to invasions,destructions and fires.Last destruction occured at the beginning of 17th century when the city practically has been destroyed.Since 17th century in Rostov began intensive construction of the temples,monasteries,public and residential buildings which are preserved till today.The most magnificent of them are Rostov Kremlin and Spaso-Yakovlevsky monastery.

Uglich

Uglich is a historical town in situated on the Volga river.The town was founded in 937 as a border fortress of Moscovy Principality.Uglich is one of the most precious towns of the Golden Ring as it has numerous buildings of ancient architecture.Among them are such as the Kremlin with the Duke’s chamber,Dmitry on Blood church and the Transfiguration of the Savior cathedral,the ensembles of Alexeevsky,Voskresensky and Theophany monasteries.The end of XVI century was memorized as a favorable time for Uglich when it became to be the town where major events in Russian history took place.When Prince Dmitry died,the dynasty of Ryurik was replaced by the dynasty of Romanovs whose members of the family originated from Uglich.Uglich has preserved both historical and cultural traditions of Russia.Magnificent Uglich museums are the samples of cultural heritage and ancient Russian traditions.
